The next three days are holidays because of the long weekend. There is work to be done, but the idea of a vacation for the next three days made the day so comfortable. Even after wrapping up on time in the morning, the meal was finished at 2 o’clock. There was some work to do but we both decided to watch the movie after a long time and we did watch until 4.00 pm. By then Saanvi was asleep and she started grumbling a bit afterward. Meanwhile, Prashant had taken to organizing the photos on the hard drive. He immediately started showing Saanvi’s childhood videos and then her mood was a bit ok by then. After a while, she ran to Aaji (grandmother) and started playing with her.
However, we kept looking at the other photos, and all of a sudden we came to the folder of Sparkle Kavi and first saw the above photo. And everything flashbacked like a movie.
To pass my time when we were in America we bought a sewing machine. And we both decided that I would sew all my dresses from now on, and I would not buy any new dress (I took it anyway 😉). But Prashant’s Insistence was not to buy any new readymade dress but can give you any amount of fabric and material to sew it on own. (And he kept his word). This was the beginning of my sewing first skirt.
Until then, In the USA we did not even know where to buy the fabric and from that point, we started to know everything. This is the skirt that I sew of the same fabric that we brought. I remember the average price of this fabric was $5. As soon as the calculation started in my head, a garment that costs around Rs. 80 in India is available here for Rs 350. And if this gets wasted then I will not like it all. But on the other hand Prashant had different views. He said, if you don’t try then, the cloth will be wasted. That’s when I started thinking positively.
But I also wanted to make a good skirt in the first attempt. So I made a paper skirt first, sewed it by hand, and tried it on me carefully. Then only I dared to scissor the cloth and started sewing my first skirt. I had no experience in sewing. I made this first skirt with little online help. For some reason, I wanted to call my mother and tell her this story. After that I sewed a lot for myself, tops, western dress and much more. Even after that, I did not stop buying new dresses from the shops 😁😁 …. but it became less 🙂
Such is the beginning of Sparkle Kavi and I 🙂 22 August 2015
